So Far So Good

We’re one month into the New Year and my birding total stands at 95 species.  That’s a good total but like any good birder I can’t help but be disappointed by the ones I missed.  I am on pace now to see 1140 species in 2012.

  1. I read that you go to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Maybe one of these days we can meet and go together and do some birding. Maybe Monica Berger would be interested in joining us. BTW, how can you see 1140 species in one year? I assume that you would travel abroad to accomplish that goal.

I’m always up for Jamaica Bay. And the more eyes the better. Obviously I don’t expect to see 1140 species on Long Island this year. I was just extrapolating based on my totals so far this year.

  3. Let’s see if we can plan a field trip with Monica Berger. In the next 2 weeks I will be busy dealing with the new demands of the Spring semester but once the semester is moving ahed I can have some time. BTW, you can see many bird species in Central America; specially Costa Rica and Panama. I am thinking about a birding trip to Panama during the Spring break in April.

  4. I saw so many species of bird last year during my trip throughout Asia. I am sure I will see many this year down in the Caribbean as well. I love photographing Humming Birds, especially.

The new MPA Academic Advisor at John Jay College does Bat rescue upstate. She is always getting calls, picking up Bats and nursing them back to health.
